Bend Dermatology’s DermaSpa provides microneedling treatments to patients looking for a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that helps minimize the signs of aging, improve the appearance of acne scars, and rejuvenate aging skin.

Often referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy, microneedling is a technique that creates micro-injuries into the skin’s surface, causing an increase in collagen production. This is a non-invasive treatment that involves using a device to create tiny holes in the skin’s surface, followed by the application of a topical product directly onto the surface for a deeper level of absorption and penetration into the skin.

The microneedling process opens up the skin and allows it to better absorb products into a deeper level of the skin, thus helping with the rejuvenation process and removal of acne scars, sunspots, melasma, wrinkles, and stretch marks.Microneedling is used to improve skin tone and texture as well as treating the appearance of scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, and pigmentation marks.

At Bend Dermatology’s DermaSpa, we will help you determine the best skin care and treatment plan and if microneedling might be an ideal treatment based on your areas of concern.

SKINPEN®

A minimally invasive microneedling treatment that rejuvenates the skin. Results include improved texture and firmness along with a reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling uses the skin’s ability to heal itself by puncturing the dermis of the skin with a microscopic needle, triggering the production of new collagen. It is suitable for all skin types and tones. The process of microneedling is performed with tools such as the SkinPen by Bellus Medical or other devices like a “derma roller.” These tools have tiny needles attached that are used to make many tiny little holes or pricks in the top layers of the skin. These tiny holes from the needles create “microchannels” that allow medicated skin care products to penetrate and absorb into the deeper layers of the skin, which kicks the skin into healing mode and stimulates collagen and elastin production.

What is SkinPen?

SkinPen by Bellus Medical is the first microneedling device cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It’s clinically proven to safely and effectively treat facial acne scars for anyone ages 22 and up.It can help improve your appearance for up to six months with as few as three non-invasive and affordable treatments spaced 30 days apart.

What Should I Expect During Microneedling Treatment?

An experienced Provider will first have an in-depth consultation with you to understand your concerns, goals, and determine the best treatment plan for your specific needs.During preparation, a topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area. Once the microneedling process is performed, a non-cytotoxic hydrogel is applied topically during the treatment to prevent the skin from drying out post-treatment.Other products can be applied post-treatment to enhance absorption into the skin. You can meet with a provider at Bend Dermatology to learn more about the options that can be used after treatment to further enhance your results. After your treatment, you will be provided with post-care instructions and should be able to resume most of your normal activities the next day.

What Areas Can Be Treated With Microneedling?

The best and most common areas for treatment are:

  • Neck
  • Arms
  • Décolleté (Low neckline)
  • Face
  • Body

Is There Any Downtime With Microneedling?

Recovery time is minimal, but it is best to allow yourself time to heal. Patients are normally able to resume back to normal activities the next day.You may experience mild redness, bruising, and/or swelling at the injection site(s). Swelling usually resolves in 24-48 hours, and bruising can last up to two weeks for some patients.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Results vary per patient, but you will notice improvement with a single procedure. Some patients may only need one treatment, but on average you will need 3-6 treatments approximately 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results. It is recommended to repeat the treatment once a year for maintenance and yearly rejuvenation. To book a consultation, determine if microneedling is the right treatment for you, or to learn more about microneedling and get on a customized treatment schedule, make an appointment with a Bend Dermatology Provider throughout Central Oregon.
